This session fulfilled one of Coach Mike Garland's long-standing goals: to teach more individuals how to perform CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) and use AEDs (automated external defibrillators). For seniors, it is crucial to be prepared for situations where these life-saving skills may be required.

During the session, Coach Garland shared his personal story of survival, thanks to two motorists who stopped to administer CPR. In gratitude, he established the foundation "Champions of the Heart" to train everyday individuals in these essential skills.

Training Highlights

  • Participants practiced CPR on mannequins under the guidance of trained instructors.

  • The learning process was straightforward, boosting confidence among attendees.

  • Many participants now feel equipped to effectively administer CPR if necessary.

  • The same confidence applies to using AEDs.

It is strongly recommended that all seniors consider CPR and AED training, as it could enable them to save the life of a friend, relative, or even a stranger. Source: MSU Newsletter
